The second Italian national forest inventory employs NFS staff for data collection, that is photo interpretation (first phase) and field surveys (second, third phase and integrative survey).
CRA-MPF is responsible for the scientific and technical aspects and took care of the planning, the crews training, the data processing and the publication of results . Other contributors have been involved to solve specific tasks, such as for the informative aspects.
All the activities linked to the forest inventory were coordinated by a Steering Committee set up at the General Department of the National Forest Service and are logistically supported by the SIA Agency (Automated Information Systems) of the same department.
The project time lines were scheduled as following:
2004: end of first phase
2006: end of second phase
2007: end of third phase
2009: end of third phase integrative survey
Results about forest have been available from May 2007 on.
Results on quantitative attributes have been published starting from March 2008
Results on carbon stocks are supposed to be available starting from December 2010. |
